Downloading files from MediaFire
So many people share Cricut files these days. A great many of us use MediaFire to store and share the file. Follow these steps and you shouldn't end up downloading any nasties...
(Always make sure your virus software is up to date)
Click on the link that the person sharing their file has given you.
You'll be taken to Mediafire and should see this screen:
Once it 's ready to download you'll see this box asking you whether you want to Open the file or Save the File.
If you just want to print it out and not save it, select Open with Adobe Reader and click OK. The file will open (assuming you have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader) and you can print it out.
If you DO want to save it to your computer select Save File and click OK
The file will commence downloading to your computer. If you use Firefox and you have "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file" selected (Tools, Options, General tab) you'll see this window.
When it has fully downloaded double click on the file name in the download box and your file will open ready for you to print.

Version 2 of Carts with Fonts list is ready for download!
I just finished uploading the new version of the Cricut Carts with Fonts list.
I made a few changes to it. There is now a column for you to tick if you own the cart, plus there is another column which notes whether the font has a shadow. Here's a sneak peak:
There are about double the number of pages now, BUT the way I have done it will mean that in future you won't have to print out all the pages again. I'll let you know which pages have a change on them! Hope you find that feature useful.
There are now two versions of the PDF you can download. One uses the US letter size paper and the other the A4 size paper.
Here's the two links:
US letter version: http://www.mediafire.com/?zqjvqagaen75vek
A4 version: http://www.mediafire.com/?jfxp92kx6rknbry
When downloading the file, make sure you don't click on anything other than the "Click here to start download...." button. That way you won't download any nasties.
I'll be uploading a tutorial on downloading files from Media Fire later today!
Enjoy! Again, let me know if there's any changes you would like.

Oops! And a very late apology
So it appears that there's more than one GirlfromOz out there..... (Go figure - I thought how original I was being by using a spin off of the Hugh Jackman musical the Boy From Oz!)
A couple of weeks ago I got an email from another girlfromoz who asked me to stop using her email address....
I thought "Say what??? "
I didn't give it much more thought till I received an email from a friend who sent it to my hotmail a/c and to my home email address. That's when the penny dropped. I noticed that the hotmail address was wrong. Instead of girlfromoz2009 at hotmail dot com it was addressed to girlfromoz at hotmail.com! (I did try to get that address originally but it was taken... obviously.... which is why I added the 2009)
To cut an already far too long story short..... I emailed her to let her know what must have happened. She replied and very nicely forwarded me a stack of emails that had gone to her by mistake.
So....... if you sent me an email any time from 24th March 2009 and you didn't get a reply....... SORRY!!!!! It went to the wrong address!!!!
I have found a few blog posts where I had typed the wrong address and have fixed those, and I'll keep looking to make sure there's no more!

Get the Adobe PDF reader here
If you're having trouble opening the Cricut fonts file make sure you have a PDF reader installed.
Here's the link to the Adobe Reader:

If you don't want McAfee Security Scan Plus software to download, make sure you deselect that option before you click the Download Now button.

Answers to some comments
Wow! What a response to my little old cart list!!!
I'm so happy that so many Cricut users out there have found it so useful.
There have been a couple of people who haven't been able to download it. If you have trouble, please let me know and I can email it to you. Just let me know your email address and I'll send it on.
I have no idea why Bing would have been downloaded to your computer. That's certainly not something that I had any control over. I haven't heard of that happening to anyone else... yet! :)
You should be able to remove the Bing toolbar by going to your control panel, add/remove programs and uninstalling it from there.
As I said above, please let me know your email address if you would like me to email the file to you.
Thanks Kathy! When I was creating the document I considered showing which carts had a shadow. I really just wanted to get the list finished so left that feature out. But.... I will hopefully have that information added ready for the next version after Hello Thursday. So stay tuned! :)

I'll definitely be sharing some info on sizing layers and some more on the Hide Contour feature soon! :)
What? You want ALL my secrets??? LOL
Seriously though, I just added each font to my DS mat, previewed it then used my Windows 7 "Snipping Tool" to take a copy of the preview. Then I copied that into a Word document table. Easy peasy! :)
"I just taught a class on Design Studio on Saturday and emailed your list to everyone in the class. I will hand out a copy to my future classes. Thank you so very much for doing all of the work. Also I am missing a page 9 is there one? "
Page 9 was missing from the original post, but it is there now.
Please let me know if you have any more questions and thanks again for all the lovely comments!

"Thanks for all the hard work that you did compling this list. However, I am upset that when I downloaded it, it also downloaded the Bing tool bar and made Bing my home page and now I can't check my email and can't figure out how to get rid of it. Wish you would have mentioned that this download also downloaded other stuff because I would not have downloaded it. Plus was never able to open the file..."

"Thank you for all your hard work. I am now a follower and love your blog. I had just about given up using my design studio because I still have problems hiding features of critters and sizing the layers to fit properly. I hope you will address this issue in the near future. Jan"

Updates to Font List
Hi everyone
Thank you so much for the amazing response to the Font List!
If you find anything missing or incorrect feel free to let me know! I'll update this file every month after the new carts are released.
So far I have added Life is a Beach (thanks DisneylandChick). The latest download now includes that font.
Bethdoc let me know that I had duplicated one of the fonts on Old West. I have fixed that now and it will be correct in the next update. That should be just after Jan 21st (Hello Thursday).
Here's what Old West should look like:
I'll update the previous post to fix that mistake.
Also, a few people have had warnings pop up about a virus when they are downloading the file. I downloaded the file myself to check and didn't get an error. I then ran Trend Micro on the file and it was clean.
It could be the ads on the mediafire site that are throwing the error. I may look at changing from Mediafire to another site. I'll update the link if I change.

Transferring cut files to and from your Gypsy
Please note: The latest versions of Cricut Sync have mostly stopped the ability to transfer files to and from the Gypsy. PC are apparently working on a fix for this but haven't giving any indication of when that will be available.
If you have an old version of Cricut Sync (or even Gypsy Sync) you can use that to transfer your files.
There’s more than one way to transfer cut files to and from your Gypsy. This is the way I find the easiest and quickest:
1. Use Save As to save your DS file as a Gypsy file by clicking on the "Save As type" drop down box and selecting Gypsy files. Make sure you give it a new name. (Delete everything in the file name box after the c:/ and type in a new name)
2. Close the DS file. (You can leave DS open, just make sure your file is closed.)
3. Connect your Gypsy to your computer using the USB cord and power the Gypsy on.
4. Start the Cricut Sync program from your computer. (You may have to exit out of your Virus/firewall software if Gypsy screen doesn't move from showing CONNECTING)
If your Gypsy is up to date you will get this message:
5. Click the OK button and you’ll see the list of files on your Gypsy
(If you aren’t running the most recent Gypsy update you will need to run that first. Then come back here and start again at step 4. Here’s info on that: UPDATING GYPSY TUTORIAL )
6. When your Gypsy screen shows CONNECTED… open up Windows Explorer on your computer.
7. Adjust the size of the Windows Explorer window so it only covers half of your screen.
Your computer screen should look something like this:
8. Navigate to the directory that contains the file you created with Design Studio. (Usually c:/mydocuments/cricut/projects)
9. Using your left mouse button click (and hold) on the file you want to copy to your Gypsy and drag it over to the Gypsy screen.
10. Release the mouse button and the file will appear in the list of Gypsy files. (You can use the Ctrl key to select and copy multiple files)
11. When you have finished copying your files, click on the X in the top right corner of the Cricut Sync program to exit.
You’ll be taken back to the Gypsy Welcome screen.
12. Disconnect your Gypsy from your computer.
You’re now ready to use the file on your Gypsy.
1. To transfer your Gypsy files to Design Studio we do the same basic process as above. At step 9 above click on the file from the Gypsy screen and drag it over and drop it into the Projects folder in Windows Explorer.
2. Once you have copied it to the projects folder, open Design Studio. (You can exit out of Cricut Sync now and disconnect from your computer)
3. In DS Select File, Open
4. Change the drop down File Name box to Gypsy Files
5. Select the Gypsy file you want to open and press Open
6. To cut the file with DS you will need to select File, Save As, give it a new name and select Cricut Files from the Save as Type drop down menu.
7. Give it a new name and press Save.
Don't forget: Files that are created on the Gypsy that have hidden contours will have those contours visible in DS. You will have to select each one and hide them again. (This is a known problem with the Hide Contour feature in DS). If you want to keep contours hidden always save your file as a Gypsy file.

Cartridges - which update?
If you're trying to download a cart to DS and can't find it, it may be because you're downloading the wrong update. Here's a list of all the carts and which update you'll find them in.
Note - any cart that says "Not in DS" is an Imagine cart (except for Smiley Cards) and can only be used on the Cricut Imagine. Therefore you won't find it in DS.

Resizing pictures to upload to the message board
For a picture to actually show up in the message, it must be less than 1MB in size. There are several ways to resize your pictures. Here's a couple:
Make sure Percentage is selected then change the figure in the Horizontal box. The size you choose will depend on how big the original photo is. As a start try 50%.
Make sure "Maintain aspect ratio" is checked. The amount in the Vertical box will also change to 50%
After you have resized your photo, upload it to your thread on the message board.
If it only shows as a link, you will have to repeat the above process with the original file, this time using a smaller percentage.
I'll be using http://www.shrinkpictures.com/resize.php
(Search "resize pictures" for many other options.)
Go to http://www.shrinkpictures.com/resize.php
You'll see this box:
Your picture will be uploaded and resized.
After you have resized your photo, upload it to your thread on the message board.
1. Using Microsoft Paint. (You'll find it in Accessories on your computer)
- Open your picture in Microsoft Paint
For Windows 7:
- Click on Resize from the toolbar
Make sure Percentage is selected then change the figure in the Horizontal box. The size you choose will depend on how big the original photo is. As a start try 50%.
Make sure "Maintain aspect ratio" is checked. The amount in the Vertical box will also change to 50%
- Click the OK button.
- Click the first toolbar tab (next to the Home tab) and select Save As. (You don't want to overwrite the original photo.)
- Click on JPEG picture from the list of file types.
- Give your photo a new name and press the Save button
- Close the file by exiting out of Paint
For older versions of Microsoft Paint:
- Open your picture in Microsoft Paint
- From the Image menu select Resize/Skew
- Insert a new amount in the Horizontal box - 50%
- Insert the same amount in the Vertical Box - 50%
- Select OK
After you have resized your photo, upload it to your thread on the message board.
If it only shows as a link, you will have to repeat the above process with the original file, this time using a smaller percentage.
2. Using a photo resizing service from the web.
I'll be using http://www.shrinkpictures.com/resize.php
(Search "resize pictures" for many other options.)
Go to http://www.shrinkpictures.com/resize.php
You'll see this box:
- Click the Browse button, select your file and press Open
- Select Custom and type 1000 in the box
- Press the Resize button
Your picture will be uploaded and resized.
- Just above your picture you'll see:
- Click that, select a destination for your new picture and press OK/Save
After you have resized your photo, upload it to your thread on the message board.
